Posted: March 30th, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: Graf | No Comments »
Just a re post for the Split Cream show this week. Unfortunately I can’t attend as I’m going to be in the mystical country of Kernow. I’ve checked and signed my prints today and they look GREAT!

CELEBRATING THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PRINT & MUSIC
Opening Thursday:April 1st, 6 – 10pm
Exhibition:1/04/10 – 05/05/10 at Dalston Superstore
R.S.V.P:info@splitcream.com

This April Dalston based art-worker, Mathew Humphrey curates a screen print exhibition celebrating it’s continuous relationship to left field music. The work on display pays respect to print making as a process and visual tool used by the musicians in developing an individual identity. This process decorates music culture with a distinctly visual yet rough casual desire which is present within promotional material, album covers and tour memorabilia.

Graffiti Artist AZEK one Talks to World Graffiti

AZEK one has been painting some tight wild style for a good few years now, so we asked him more about what he does…

AZEK one Graffiti Art - Toulouse France

AZEK one Graffiti Art - Toulouse France

WG – What names do you paint as and with what crews?

AZEK one – Hi, I write AZEK and also with a “S” in throwies. I’ve built the LEC crew with my bro Kaise in 1995, then over the years I took part in different crews with friends like DSK from Paris, and LCF from Toulouse.

We’ve built the CZ crew in 2006 reprezenting the best from 2 generations of graffiti writers from my hood, the decision was taken during painting 4 whole cars coast to coast by the 4 members.

WG – When and how did you first get into writing?

AZEK one – I got into it through hip hop first, living in my suburbs of Toulouse with my mother and grandma.

At the beginning, after getting into different trouble as a kid, I just wanted to repeat my name on my city walls. I tried spray cans and markers after… and I fell into it!

Really quickly I was motivated to learn about style and culture, then practice and do my thing. And paint more and more …

WG – Where would you go and paint when you first started? Get in any trouble?

AZEK one – I think it would be everywhere! I wanted to travel and see differents cities since the first years i began painting.

I got trouble in the first years too, but less later on. Sometimes it happens. It’s not now like 10 years ago, we must take care.

WG – Favourite place to paint?

AZEK one – My favourite place to paint is New York, it’s all about the feelings and my friends out there, it’s a hard choice I can’t just answer once, because now I know Montreal too, and it THE place for graffiti right now.

I mustn’t forget my city either, Toulouse, it’s a cool city in the south of France. Lots of people know it’s clearly one of the best place to paint in our country, many artists are from here.

My other favourite place is to paint on freights, your graffiti stays up for longer and runs through many different cities and countries.

WG – You have a great wildstyle, you always done that or did you start off a bit more old school?

AZEK one – Thank you. I’ve loved wild style from the start but it took time to really do it on the wall.

My first pieces had a simple style and didn’t have many colors, you have to learn the can and style before trying wild style, basics are a must.

WG – Favourite shoes?

AZEK one – Nike, no doubt and of course Air Jordan.

WG – What paint do you use?

AZEK one – I like to use every brand! I love cans and test many different ones, from car paint to last new “2K-cans” hehe. It evolves so much.

But I’ve got my preferences for sure: 94, Mtn, Multona, Auto-k, Belton, Rustoleum, Ironlak

WG – What are you up to in 2010?

AZEK one – Many projects, still keeping my art moving forward, doing the model trains and canvas.

Planning to travel, come back to USA and Canada maybe.

Got to make it to Paris again too… Many projects, stay tuned ;)

WG – If you can only paint with 2 colours for the rest of your life, what 2?

AZEK one – Black and White – always good, it can’t lie. If you think it’s not really colours (you’re right btw) I maybe say red and yellow.

AZEK one Graffiti Art - Toulouse France

WG – Do you still get to paint outside much?

AZEK one – Yeah it happens, less than the past, getting older means you have more responsibility and less time. But I love to, and it always follows me.

I like tag and handstyle a lot, it’s a daily job, time has changed but everyone knows we’ve all got something to write, always looking forward the best spots.

Last words:

Thanks to Jim, World Graffiti and UrbanArtBomb.

My Mum (RIP). My Love. To all my friends from Toulouse, everywhere in France and Europe, in USA and Canada, all around our planet, just keep the world and get painting with styles dudes. Peace.

Misterdarkboy Molotow Graffiti Sneakers

Misterdarkboy Molotow Graffiti Sneakers

We’ve had some tech problems over the weekend which have meant going back to an old site design for a day or two until it’s fixed, but that’s not going to stop us…

Misterdarkboy has done a sick commissioned set of graffiti sneakers for Molotow, what else is there to know? We’ve got a load of photos of his custom sneakers and a video showing the making of the Molotows, he also answered a few questions for us…

Misterdarkboy Custom Graffiti Sneakers

Misterdarkboy Custom Graffiti Sneakers - Molotow

Misterdarkboy Graffiti Resin Toy

WG – Where are you from, and what name do you paint as?

Misterdarkboy – I am Misterdarkboy and I’m based in the UK.

WG – How did you first get into graffiti art?

MDB – I started painting straight out of art school in 2003. The spray can was always a tool I used on canvas so it was an easy transition to other formats.

Misterdarkboy Custom Graffiti Sneakers

Misterdarkboy Custom Graffiti Sneakers

WG – Why did you start doing custom sneakers?

MDB – I’ve always been a sneakerhead so I combined my two loves together.

WG – What influences your art? I saw you have an anime vibe, is this something you’re into?

MDB – Anime is one of many elements that influence my work. Recent visits I have taken to Japan, and most memorably a visit to the studio Ghibli museum in Mitaka Tokyo have been inspiring.

The studio Ghibli films are just magical, there is a quality to the workmanship and style that is totally unique.

Misterdarkboy Custom Graffiti Sneakers - Molotow

WG – What artists are you into at the moment?

MDB – I am feeling the work of Roa, C215 and INSA - these guys are fresh!

WG – How did the Molotow appearance happen?

MDB – We had been talking for a while, and when they wanted me to test the Molotow One4All marker i worked on this commission for them.

WG – You can only paint with 2 colours for the rest of your life, what 2 colours?

MDB – Pink and black, thats just how I roll.

Misterdarkboy Custom Graffiti Sneakers

WG – Favourite sneakers?

MDB – I couldn’t just pick one pair, but I do have a soft spot for anything with a Trefoil

WG – Any plans for 2010?

MDB – More colabs, custom sneakers, vinyl toys and clothing. Should hopefully have something to report from a very prestigious toy company in the east. You heard it here first!
