The grand opening of a boutique gallery in Downtown Los Angeles called DIALECT is opening its doors for the first time during the next Downtown Art Walk, February 11th, 2010, from 5-11pm.
The brainchild of creative producers and partners Mike Russek and Deborah Vogt, it’ll showcase art, accessories and custom furniture and more good stuff.
DIALECT is located in the heart of downtown Los Angeles at 215 W. 6th Street, Suite 111 (the corner of 6th and Spring Street), pop by for a look. There is a great mix of art and cross-over stuff, check out the Kofie table! Wicked.
What’s going on there?
The opening show is SILICA CANDY (February 11-March 6th), with collaborative works from glass artist Adam Mostow and huichol beadwork from Julio Sanchez. There is also a wild number of artists with work there and the 1st ever MAC AND RETNA COLLABORATIVE fine art serigraph limited edition print available.
Who are Adam Mostow and Julio Sanchez? I’ll let Dialect answer this one…
Adam Mostow was born and raised in the city of Los Angeles. Adam’s days as a young adult were spent in subcultures experiencing pastimes like graffiti, pipe making, and vision-questing.
His early experiences, combined with an education at the local University’s Bachelor of Fine Art’s program in glass/sculpture, helped Adam sharpen his hand and design skills, contributing to the evolution of his technique and craft and facilitating the actualization of his art.
Julio Sanchez was born and raised in Queretaro de Artega, Mexico. While growing up in the big city, Julio maintained his indigenous roots despite being surrounded by conservative Catholic ideals. His life became a duality of these two cultures, and this led him to his two loves: his wife Mariana and the peyote cactus.
These two flowers guided Julio to become a student devoted to the humanities who honors his indigenous ancestors through artistic expression. Julio’s dedication to preserving Wixarika culture strongly influences the chaquira beadwork he creates and a tool by which he expresses his heart.
It will also feature a salon-style gallery wall with fresh artworks from a collection of artists whom Russek and Vogt have worked with throughout the years. You will see new pieces from the following artists:
- Kofie One
- L.Croskey
- Ekundayo
- Caia Koopman
- Hans Haveron
- Chris Leavens
- Brion Topolski
- Glenn Campbell
- Walt Hall
- Myong Kurily
- John Park
- …and more TBA
There is also a huge range of other goodness, furniture, stuff for the home and more. Not your regular home gear though… O, and some BLAMO! toys. Nice.
Go give them a visit sometime, it’s a great place for a wonder around and loads of new art. You’ll be able to buy some of the gear online soon, we’ll keep you posted.
