Whoop whoop it’s the art of the police

The London Police’s LADS characters have been gracing streets across the world for over 10 years now, so I think it’s about time you embraced them on your walls.

Take a look: http://bit.ly/HXlyi.

‘Something For All The Family’ would seem an appropriate choice:

Cop a load of these guys

Video Interview with Stencil/Urban Artist ABOVE – from The Run Up Doc

Video Interview with Stencil/Urban Artist ABOVE – from The Run Up Doc

Walrus TV put out some great interviews with legendary urban artists and this one with ABOVE is my favourite so far by a mile. The guy has a positivity that’s infectious and his stencil and visual art fits awesomely with the surroundings he chooses to paint in.

I’m a huge fan, take a look at the video.

‘Eventually you’re going to get there. It might take a day, it might take a lifetime, but through that persistence, and through that determination and drive, I think there’s definitely a lot of beauty in that. And a lot of power. That’s what I want to tap into.’ -Above

Often found hanging from power lines or melding with urban architecture, Above’s site specific stencils, paintings, and installations push past the traditional expectations of graffiti. The evolution of his name from text to a symbol inspired him to explore less conventional media, leading to his trademark wooden mobiles.

Whether subtle or massive, his pieces retain an innate sense of beauty through their dialogue with the surrounding environment. Refusing to show his work in galleries, Above has instead “toured” through Europe and North and South America to get his work up.

Here is another Walrus TV interview with Rock Steady Crew member Doze Green.

Sean Martindale’s FREE

Torontoist has a terrific article on Sean Martindale’s latest project, Free. Sean tells us:

“The Art Gallery of Ontario kindly let me use their parking lot for this project. It’s a fenced-off enclosure that bisects Butterfield Park and Grange Park here in downtown Toronto. The installation became a bit of a marathon as I tied it together over a solid twenty-four hour period, overnight and through some light rain. In the end, I used more than 21,663 feet of salvaged string – two high-tension lengths for each of the 231 points/nodes crossing the 44-foot distance between the fences, plus the letter outlines. So far, the squirrels haven’t chewed on it for their nests…’
