Another Bristol Banksy Buffed

Posted: August 13th, 2009 | Author: graggregator | Filed under: Graf | No Comments »

Thanks to Johnny C for first flagging this one up in the comments, and Ives for going and getting the photos, but another old Banksy in Bristol has been pressure washed off, about a week ago, presumably by the Council.

It was this one on Pro Cathedral Lane, ironically just around the corner from where hundreds are queuing to see his show at the museum every day…

The photo above was taken in May 2000, but it had been there for a good deal longer by then, probably since about 1998. Apparently the ant and hand were done around 1996-1998, and there was lots of other old work all along there too.

It looked like this last December…

…and here’s what it looks like now.

In fact, the whole lane’s been cleaned up by the looks of things.

But not all that well on closer inspection.

pro cathedral lane tags faded

There was a lot of tagging on this wall, but it’s had work on it for years, work that had lasted for years too, seem to remember it being said that some of the earliest graf in Bristol was done on there. Nothing ever lasts for ever, but it’s pretty unfortunate timing for the Council if it was them that washed it off.

If they want a list of where the rest are to help them avoid this again, we’d be happy to put one together.
