Cheo And 3Dom Buffed By The Council, PRSC Not Happy…

Blogging’s been light of late, sorry about that. This has come in from the good people at The People’s Republic Of Stokes Croft though, and potentially has repercussions for graf all over the city.

In short, a production by Cheo and 3Dom, both obviously having recently painted the walls of the RWA, has been painted out by the council without permission.

Here’s the backstory to the photos below from PRSC.

The work was done with the express permission of the property owner, and the council were made aware of this on Friday, yet on Monday the piece was painted over. PRSC has been working to promote Stokes Croft as an outdoor gallery. Whilst Bristol City Council has been making noises about wanting to work with the community, their behavior seems to be negative, antagonistic, and certainly unacceptable…This kind of behavior has been going on for over two years now.

Here’s what it was before the council got to it…

…here’s how the council used our money to ‘improve the streetscene for the community’…

…and here’s the reaction of PRSC.

So, if you want to register a complaint about the council painting over work that a building owner had apparently given permission for, then PRSC would like you to email the council’s chief exec  – jan.ormondroyd@bristol.gov.uk.

Given there’s about to be council elections in a few weeks time, it might be worth emailing councillors about this too. This part of this fair city falls under the responsibility of Cllrs Alex Woodman and Mark Wright. The latter is currently seeking re-election.

The thing is, if the council can paint out work on private property when the property owner has given permission for the original work to be done, then nothing’s safe is it. They’ve said before that these things are done as accidents, but whether they are or not, they can’t keep on happening.

Hello people After months of radio silence, and inability to be a regular/serial blogger I’ve decided to turn over a new leaf the corner has been turned and although I will no doubt bump into myself when I turn the next corner things have changed.  I will be checking in to bring you all that is happening in the crazy and a little bit disturbed world of Mr Jago.

I am involved in some great shows & projects over the next 12 months with shows in Los Angeles, London, Milan & San Francisco which is super cool & super studio time, but all’s good.  I will also be painting at a small number of live events starting with the Eurocultured Festival in Manchester on the weekend of the 23rd of May.  So you will not be detecting any moss growth on my Rolling Stone!  The dates for your diary

Modart group show
Thinkspace Gallery
4210 Santa Monica Boulevard
Los Angeles,CA 90029
14th August – September 4th

Hooking up with the wonderful Modart family again which is always a treat and also Thinkspace Gallery (with whom I have a solo show booked for 2010) this is shaping up to be one hell of a show involving some crazily talented names which include Microbo, Tim Biskup, SheOne, Anthony Lister, Will Barass, Galo, Bo130, Faith47 and many more are, so I was especially touched to be asked to take residence of the galleries ‘Project Room’ so I will be displaying a selection of new paintings created specifically for this show.

I will blog the others nearer the time so just a quick run through. I will also have a piece in the Stolenspace summer show which begins on the 2nd July 2009.

Next up a solo show with possibly my favourite Gallery/Gallery owner in the world, beginning on the 24th of September at The Don Gallery in Milan.

This is followed by another group show at the 1988 Gallery in San Francisco with my work featuring alongside the work of Gaia, Angry Woebots, Deseo, Scribe & Dia.  Opens Friday the 16th of October 2009.

More soon (promise)
